: I have no advice to offer you, Vivian. I am sitting here at work
: reading your thread and started to wonder why it's called a
: "wet exit". If you are in a kayak, any exit while on
: the water is bound to be wet. Please, anyone, if there is such
: an animal as a "dry exit"...chirp in. In my
: experience, all exits, even just getting out after a nice day of
: paddling, have been wet. No wait, I got this one myself. When I
: paddle during temperatures of about -10 C, all exits are not
: wet, they are dry...well, as dry as exiting onto river ice can
: be.

Wet exit= wet hair, dry exit=dry hair, the latter usually done voluntarily at the shore or wharf. One could also note that during a wet exit, one's ego is somewhat dampened. :)

I like 1/4" bungee cord, and double it where a self rescue paddle will be secured.

However, the best self rescue by far is a roll - well worth learning, and really not that difficult with some instruction. Contrary to some thinking, rolling is easier, if slightly slower, in a properly loaded boat (ie. with the heaviest stuff secured at the bottom of the load). To make the learning process more comfortable, wear nose clips and swimming goggles. The goggles will help you orient by being able to see what is going on.

Best regards,

Allan Edie
