: I haven't tried it but here's some ideas that might help -

: Rotating the paddle against the fence should work OK.
: I would start at the shoulder and work toward the tip, so the tip
: remains full diameter until the end acting as a guide against
: the tabletop.
: I suspect the easiest way to do it is to ceut the entire rabbet
: before cutting the paddle, assuming you made it in one piece.
: If it's a hollow shaft, you might need a bit extra wall thickness
: where the outer diameter is reduced . . .

Actually I think you're probably going to be better off making the tenon undersized at first then overlaying a layer of glass/epoxy onto it. The wood tends to compress under the ferrule and gets loose over time otherwise.
