: I like Bill's idea using vinyl tape. If the objective is to make a
: maroon canoe easily visible to a rescue crew, some creative
: striping with different widths of vinyl tape would not only be
: easy and effective but very inexpensive. Also easily removed.

: Bags ( waterproof packs) I use on canoe trips. I striped them
: with a few bands of yellow vinyl tape so they would be easy to
: spot on group outings. Did the same thing with blue painters
: tape around my black luggage so I can spot it on the carousel at

Another problem with paint is the only colors that show up well against the water will have a really tough time covering maroon. Probably have to paint it white first then re-paint with the lighter colors. Red is just as bad as maroon btw once the sun starts setting, nearly invisible on the water.

Putting that much paint over a flexible plastic is very likely a recipe for disaster.
