Before I fly north to work, I touched up all areas of wood exposed after sanding. I removed all the real maple leaves to prep the deck for new graphics which will be hand-traced maple leaf patterns filled with more metal flake. There will be roughly 10 of these maple leaves trailing along the deck surface from front to back. When I get home, I will tape off the areas which are to be painted a nice automotive metallic sapphire blue color. If you look closely at the deck, you can see the ghost of the original maple leaves I embedded on the deck two years ago. These ghosts occurred because the wood underneath the maple leaves was not affected by ultraviolet light exposure, which has a bleaching effect on okhume plywood...or anything else, for that matter.
