I actually used shrink wrap on my first SOF. It was a good temporary skin but had two drawbacks.
The first was that the material is not very flexible when you are applying it prior to shrinking, getting good seams takes some patience. The second problem was that while in the water the boat was fine. On land I had to be careful where I put it down because if a sharp rock or piece of gravel hit on a rib, a small leak would develop. By time I cut off the shrink wrap, there were lots of tape patches.

It did conform to the shape well and I used it for most of the summer until I had time to put on a Dacron skin.
