Yep, it stuck. If you look at the close up image of the smaller maple leaves, you can see where the tape was stuck from the residual adhesive left around the perimeter of the leaves. I realised that I must have used a bad batch of tape when I saw that the adhesive did not come off but by then, it was too late to do anything about it. The Fineline did come off very easily on the clear coated blue. Sigh! Always a challenge. I have access to various solvents, I'll have to sort this out. In the mean time, I have gone back to using the electrical tape which generally peels off and leaves little residue that easily washes off with acetone.
