True, didn't think about the fact that they might be made in China. I have had similar experiences with the "stainless steel" screws at Home Depot. They are not stainless, and they can't take much more than 5 foot pounds of torque. It's the same reason I quit buying Empi parts for my VW. Every bolt they supplied was like some unknown type of metal that looked like aluminum mixed with steel and I would have to run to the chandlery and get some real SS bolts.
There are also different levels of "stainless" steel. I find that the local chandlery sells the best stainless. You can tell the stuff with more nickel in it by the color. Of course they also charge as much as $1 a bolt!
That said, I may give it a try and I will let you guys know what the results are.
