Yep, you'll want to get rid of the glass.

Normal problems with lapstrakes are rot at the plank edges at the transom and where the planks meet the keel. These arn't impossible to fix. If there is rot in the planking it's very tricky as the planks are usually attached to the ribs as well as the next plank, so it ends up basically one piece, takes some work to remove a plank and often this involves making temporary bulkheads to hold the shape as it can get pretty loose when planks are removed.

Traditionally the planks are rivited or clench nailed together and use no glue, they depend on a very tight fit at the joint between planks to keep them waterproof.
