Have to dissagree to a point. When the rivets are old and the boat has been dry, water will seep on your first outing. Going over all the rivets lightly every 20 years or so wil help keep it tighter.
What do you do if clinch nailed and all looked good? Let it swell......minor issue.
Agree on proper restoration but it was common to use butt blocks to save an otherwise good plank. Remember that these boats were mostly work boats and did not usually have a long life.
