Why split it? I'd leave the forms inside. If it's your own design I'd space the forms at about 18". If weights an issue, put it some lightening holes (ala a Yost SOF)). Strip, sand, varnish and mount.

BTW: I'm trying to get my wife to allow me to build a sub-scale traditional Greenland frame to hang from the beams in the great room. Having a hard time convincing her though...
