The axel pin is just loose in a hole in the blob, not glued.

The compression fitting squeezes the brass ring around the pin, holding it in place and sealing the unit at the same time.

I considered this, making the skeg oversize and sanding it flush with the hull. Thereby sacrificing the foil for a smoother keel when the fin is retracted. If I had done this I would have made the whole thing narrower and used a pie slice shape which could just have a slot in it for the pin and would not need the hinging arrangement. All much simpler. Not really me.

I also considered using a dagger with a foil section and a flat bottom edge which would seat flush with the keel. Maybe next time.
