It might depend on what is the shape of our cockpit. On an ocean style opening, I have never had trouble bending 1/8 strips of most any hardwood adding a few extra for breakage on the outside edge and lots of clamps. First, I sand and glass the riser on both sides with outside onto deck and inside wrapping under deck with 4 oz. bias strips. Then I make the lip in two halves on seperate days going slightly past centerine with 3/4 inch spacers underneath (make sure you pull those out before epoxy set up) and use epoxy as glue then when each half is made, clean up underside of each and cut to fit and apply with thickened epoxy on third day again with same spacers. Following that, I cut down riser to top of lip, sand smooth and glass the whole thing with 4 oz. glass on top of lip, down inside riser and under deck again. Takes a few days, but very strong. No sanding under the lip after installed and no glass fillets.
