Bob, I think many, if not most of us, me included, fit that description.

I am proud to be a gentleman paddler (get in dry, get out dry). Some view it as a sport, some as a recreation, some as a communication with nature, some as a meditation, some as an opportunity to socialise, some as a combination of various of the above. Ah, the simple pleasures......
