: I am about to start milling my strips out of red cedar. The stock
: that I am getting is a 9' piece of 1x12. I'll scarf them into
: 18' lengths, staggering the scarfs for each piece.
: I am going to B&C the strips using the canoe Bits available from
: woodcraft.com. These are designed to provide a nice 1/4"
: bead and cove.
: Now my question is this. I have heard that using 3/16" strips
: instead of 1/4" strips may be easier. I have some concerns
: about aligning the bit with the strip to get a good B&C using a
: 3/16th strip instead of the 1/4" strip. Does anyone have
: any experience with this?

I completed stripping a Guillemot L without using staples, almost.. I only used staples on the sheerline and feature lines. I wanted to insure that I had a strong anchor starting point. I follow Nick's videos on stripping by using plywood U clamps brackets. I build 40 clamps and then modified them as I encountered a tight clamping situation. Also, I only scarf about 10 strips to start and discovered it is easier to cut the scarfs, and then glue th scarfed strips together on the kayak, as shown in some of Nick's videos.
