1/4 in strips

In Response To: Strip: few questions about milling the strips (skrap1r0n)

I like 1/4" strips. It just makes me feel confident when I sand out the boat that I'm not getting too thin. 1/16" off a strip might make it easier to bend but I never run into bending problems anyhow except where the deck on an OI runs down to a flat back deck. I wouldn't just assume that 3/16 is good and 1/4 is bad. I don't think any weight saving is worth it. Cedar is so light anyhow. If the obsession over weight is what dictated that decision, then you might as well go as lean as possible on glass too. I have hit rocks on waves and I've always been happy my boat can take it.
