Yeah, the ebonizing worked much better than the bleaching but I'm thinking it will still provide the contrast I'm looking for.

I kept track of the strips as they were cut and routed the coves/beads on opposite edges on the alternating strips but I think my mistake was applying the strips with the 'wrong side' out, so that the more perfect matches are on the inside of the boat :S I don't know if that's true for the other side but it's something I'll pay closer attention to on the next boat.
