Only pest I ever encountered in or near my kayak was a beaver who didn't like the fact that I was camping overnight in it's territory. Whapped its tail on the water all night long...I barely slept and was soooooo happy to get outta there. No insect incidents...chased a black bear that was trying to swim the river...came close to a moose but stayed well away from that beast, worse than the swimming bear. Malcolm, why don't you spray that cover with a UV protectant...give it more life.
