Got Nick's Petrel plans out,at last, and came up with an issue I have fudged in the past,my excuse is that I am an engineer so must understand everything.But, hey, what's half an inch amongst freinds?
Station form profiles from plans, are literally paper thin.The placement of them is understood ,along the boat length.The actual forms are ,in my case 1/2 "thick.This means ,and please correct me if I am wrong,that the form material[wood] should lie forward of the paper "sheet" forward of the widest part of the boat,and also the form material should be aft of the paper sheet aft of the widest part of the boat.All so you don't fair the forms on the wrong side and so get wrong fair.I noticed the midle forms, on Nick's plans, at what may be maximum beam are spaced at 11 1/2 "[half inch less than the standard foot].I am guessing this is just an aberation for the cockpit area as it doesn't help with my above understanding.UNLESS, big unless, it is expected that the paper sheet gets stuck on the OTHER SIDE of the material form.This is odd as I would not want to add material,instead of fairing off material to the material of the form so that the strips sit well on them....If anyone can put this hard to explain[on my behalf] issue into plain language and tell me "I'm onto it"or not I would be aprecaitative.Other wise, it'll be another fudger.
