Hi Todd,
I have been studying Jay Babinas O.I. and that is how he does it on his plans, Jay suggested pine also I am using MDF for my station forms and stems (Wee Lassie). What if any is the downside of just doing as you suggested with the MDf stems forms?
I have completed a Panache designed by Rob Macks and he does not use external or internal stems. I did not use inside stems but I did place a hardwood external stem add on, so my experience with inside stems is nil.

This thought occurred to me also. Can I glue the glued-up external stem onto the masking tape that is wrapped along the outside edges of the stem form?
