: What many people don't realize is that wooden canoes and
: strip-built canoes used to be a highly commercial enterprise.
: Old Town Canoe started out making wood and canvas canoes and
: continue offer them

: These were very quickly made and quite inexpensive. There are
: still people building the full wood/canvas style canoes and some
: builders don't do the canvas and cover the boats with glass.
: They are no longer particularly inexpensive.
: The young prince is looking at a canoe made by Walter Walker. That

: boat and would be fun to try some time.
Hi Nick,
The wood/canvas canoes are really nice, once aluminum canoes came out they were never inexpensive. Not sure they ever were, just seem inexpensive by modern standards. There were also a huge number of molded mahogany and/or cedar canoes built commercially. They look like modern day cold molded boats but were hot molded because of the glues of the day.
