Splitting the strips down the middle eliminates the benefit of having B&C strips . . .
If the existing strips are 3/4 then reducing the width to 3/8 will make them very floppy. If you reduce the width from 3/4 to 5/8 it will make a big difference, almost twice as easy to bend across the width, 1/2" will be more than 3x easier. I haven't used B&C but I would think it would be fairly easy to plane down the bead edge while preserving the rounded edge.
A plank in a vise, with a groove routed along the top edge makes a handy holder when planing a strip, especially if you have several to modify.
