I'm a big fan of redwood and have built several strippers with it. It's readily available here
in the Colorado front range, costs less than WRC, and has very good color contrast. I've used pine also,
and though it's a bit heavier than redwood, makes a nice blonde boat.

5/8" redwood (S4S) from Lowe's.
