I agree. I tried slivers of wood, wood putty etc and my best results were from Dooky Smutz (thickened epoxy). It also keeps the procedure uniform. My Great Auk 14 looks like a patchwork quilt from all the things I tried. Make sure you use some light wood flour or white cabosil when mixing otherwise it is too dark.
