Scott, you make some good points.
After the steps in the video, cut short pieces of glue stick to plug the holes, add another coat of epoxy. When that cures, sand and ease the edges of the holes. (A sharp edge... absolutely could cause a line to snap. )

I think with this method shallower angles are possible. Just drill the holes at an angle....
You'll want to keep some of inside glassed deck for strength.

Another thought to raise the decklines off the deck 1/2" (easier to grab while wearing gloves)
cut out some small bumper//trims, glue them to a larger stick to hold them while 1/4" rounding bit to curve the edges,
Vacuum hold some 4 oz glass onto the tops. Cut them off the stick. drill holes, ease the holes, dookiesmutz glue them in place.
A copper or brass ring epoxied in place around each hole would lessen friction wear. (the 6 year old deck of my GreatAuk has a lot of wear places just from deckline rub)

The deck line I used is 3/16" polyester (from West Marine). I think many use thinner deck line.

What I like about the glue sticks is that they are the weakest link. They give first. They stretch and pop right out. One test pulled apart, a small drill bit from the other side immediately grabbed the glue stick remnant and popped it right out. (I think this method is almost idiot proof, as a professional I know what I'm talking about)
