: The one possibility that I can think of is that the first kit
: supplier received a warped/reduced set of plans caused by
: printer error (this happens now and again), tried to
: ‘correct’ them without contacting the designer while
: assuming that the designer didn’t care about symmetry and
: proportion.

: But I find that hard to balance with a kit supplier who is
: experienced in architectural and graphic design where checking
: drawing size and proportion would be a natural and easy first
: check.

: So some questions, Peter:
: 1) Why are the form widths deviating?
: 2) Are the form drawings you used warped and reduced?
: 3) Or what else could be going wrong to cause this?
: 4) Is the complaint rational now?

I'm really trying to stay out of this, but I know Stephen and I find it awfully hard to believe that "he's only trying to get his money back". A reasonable solution perhaps, but he's not the kind to try to get something for nothing.
