I don't see any cons other than that they take more time to make than alternatives take to install. On the pro side there is the re-varnishing point you mention. Also they are ultra strong. The focus seems to be on deck lines but most of us also have bungee straps fore and aft of the cockpit, Maroskes are perfect for these too. On the issue of grabbing deck lines I don't see a problem. Think about the relationship of the line to the deck when you use alternatives. Some of them clamp the line against the deck or hold the line off the deck in a very minimal way. Plus as Bill says, the line needs to be slack so what happens when the line is slack? It lies on the deck anyhow. If anyone really feels a need to get around this (hypothetical?) problem they could place a few small balls/beads along the line to keep it up off the deck. I agree incorporating a spacer into the Maroske would be counter productive and to me unnecessary. Again you could achieve the same effect with a bead tied onto the line.
