Thanks for all the help guys lots of good information. I have no problem finding a used kayak but there's not alot of used ones around my only hope has been craigslist the closes place to buy new is 2 hours away and I'm located in a small town in North west Wyoming. Also I do have the $500 credit at backcountry. Com so there's not going to be alot of out of pockett expense if I order from them. I'm thinking pretty hard about this one

But will keep researching untill spring. Any recomendationd for good paddle and PFD and other must have gear?
thanks for all the help
I agree that purchasing a used plastic kayak is a great way to
: start. Also, a tandum is not a bad idea. Our first kayak was an
: open tandum, {Pamlico by Wilderness Systems}. And it still gets
: lots of use taking beginners out for their first paddle in a
: kayak, taking children out for a spin, for bow fishing, etc. And
: yes, it is heavy and not real fast, but it is our SUV of kayaks.
: BTW we do have several other kayaks.
