As others have said, laminating the ribs will definitely work, but I personally think it will take a huge amount of time and work getting each rib the right shape (do you need a form to glue it on when laminating?), bending is very easy, sure you'll break a few ribs, but it's the norm. :P

Also, the glue for laminating will probably cost you more than all the wood needed for bending, including the ones you break.

In the end, it's best that you do what you feel comfortable with, and what you've tried before, but I would suggest you try bending a test piece, get a 10 by 20 mm stick, steam/boil it for 15-20 minutes, then try bending it around something (a pre-made form, or a nearby jar of pickles, whatever you feel like. :P) and see how easy it is.
