Lots of great advice here . . . you would do well to heed it. Especially heed the part about checking out Tom Yost's website if you are looking askance at all those ribs! Non-traditional construction is much faster and simpler to build, but you still get a fine boat. No steam bending or laminating required. Tom has free plans and complete building instructions for many boats, and almost all of his boats can be built as wooden framed non-folders.

You should also check out qajaqusa.org, which is dedicated to Greenland style kayaks, and also the "instructable" found there by Wolfgang Brinck: http://www.instructables.com/id/Build-a-Greenland-Kayak/
