The iPad is not a normal computer, in that it is not really an input device. It is not even able to receive input from a mouse.

If the iPad ran normal software and interfaced easily with peripherals I imagine the laptop industry would go up in a puff of smoke

Really, the iPad is an excellent device for the multitude of uses for which it is designed, but trying to get it to do marine architecture is going to give you a big headache.
