Steaming the ribs seems wise for this kind of build. I haven’t done this kind of build so the following is guesswork, perhaps others have done this kind of build and can comment based on experience.
Morris's method is based on the traditional method developed by boat builders who had no paper to record designs and no stiff sheet material like ply for station forms. So they shaped their boats by eye and experience, adjusting as they went along. Morris sets up a rugged basic frame consisting of the gunnels, stems and keel, deck beams and masik, to which the ribs are bent to shape by eye and attached. Then fairing is done by changing lashings and reversing ribs as needed. The stringers are then added; they are stiff enough to force the ribs into a fair shape, averaging out the errors.
You can follow his system if you wish. I would prefer to have several station forms to control the hull shape, to which I would attach the longitudinal members including the stringers, creating an accurate five-point guide for shaping the ribs, which would be lashed while they are still soft and pliable. Since the stringers are fairly robust and the ribs are thin you shouldn’t need a lot of station forms to support the stringers during ribbing. If you install the ribs closest to the station forms first and work toward the unsupported span of the stringers, the earlier ribs will provide additional support to the stringers. If you use this approach, make sure you extract the station forms before the ribs make it difficult!
I would like to see lots of pictures as you progress, I haven’t seen this type of build before and would appreciate a chance to understand it better.
