Strip deck is smooth underside.
Foam masik is built up with layers of closed-cell 'Anti-Fatigue Work Mats' (interlocking floor mat).
'Seat' is 1/4" closed cell foam.

I just had it out at a local lake for an hour or so- staying close to shore. It feels pretty stable; I had no problem edging it with minimal bracing.
(I've paddled a Pygmy Arctic Tern 14 before (good boat, IMO) and this feels much the same, despite the reduced beam. My guess is that since the boat is sitting a bit deeper in the water, that compensates for the reduced width- though I haven't played with software and stability curves.)

I was practicing 'balance bracing' and the boat seems pretty happy to sit on its edge/side, which is something I wanted. Sweeping back up to a layback on the back deck was quite straightforward, but that's a long way from rolling.

I kept the full height (as in the Tern lines) at the ends and cut down the sides amidships. There's about 1" of freeboard just behind the cockpit. Probably wouldn't be 'legal' for rolling competitions, but I wanted a 'cheater' boat to help me learn to roll.
