8/4 doesn't afford the same cost savings for me. Clear cedar is tough to come by. It's virtually all 4/4. I just resaw it on the bandsaw. That has an even thinner kerf.

Not a bad idea. The non-clear hardeners are usually cheaper and stronger to boot. The really cheap hardeners can blush like crazy though... Let us know what you end of going with.
