: Glued strip boats most certainly work, they do though require
: sufficient glue area to make them strong enough. Not sure you
: can do that with a stripper's 3/16"-1/4" thick strips.
: Perhaps a bit thicker would work, I'd want to do a test panel or
: two and see. If the wood breaks when stressed then the glue area
: is ok, if the glue joints fail then you'll need thicker strips
: to make it work. The epoxy and the glass though do add
: considerable weight, so it might not be much if any heavier, it
: will likely though be more fragile as the epoxy glass also adds
: quite a bit of strength.
: Shouldn't need more than a couple frames/bulkheads to keep it
: strong enough, no more than you'd need for hatches etc. anyway.

Hi Bill,
Yep, sufficient glue area is necessary, I'd go no thinner than 1/4" and would go for either a pine/fir or good mahogany for a strong hull, with glued ribs similar to clinker built. Without glass, even a mahogany hull comes out fairly light.
One thing with ribs, glue-in or clench nailed, is to have a scupper or gap at the keel line and gunwale turn (in a decked boat/kayak) to allow any wet to water to drain from the ends better. Except at watertight bulkheads. :)
