: I am going to build a SOF Biadarka and got plans and good pics for
: the keel and stern pieces and other than that I think the
: construction is fairly similar to the Greenland kayaks I have
: built. Just wondering if anyone could help me out with the
: seating. I know it is a little further back than the Greenland
: but how do I figure out exactly where? I build the Roldarka
: according to plan and the bow was lifted out of the water empty.
: Still paddled awesome and my favorite boat, just looked strange.
: When often asked about this I explained that had I been carrying
: gear it would even out as that is what the Baidarka is meant for
: and that is why I want to build one now (for tripping) However
: when I look at other Baidarkas on the water (surely not all
: loaded) they don't have the same rise as I had.
: I now I should just buy the book but I am on a very tight budget
: right now and it is expensive to get anything shipped here.
: Thanks
I think I'd do it like ET does his (I think this is how he does his?), build the hull and float test it before you build the deck, get in and let someone else take pictures in still water. Easy way to tell where the seat needs to be.
It's a bit different with a baidarka, with the great volume aft compared to forward.
