Good point.
I've had very good results with the 'GreenSolve' paint stripper sold by LeeValley.

Another good stripper is 'Circa 1850' (the gel/thick variety) which is sold in most of the big box home improvement stores.
Mario Proulx (well-known guitar builder) recommended this to me for stripping guitar finishes, and it works well.

Stock up on (nitrile) gloves, cheap 'chip brushes', plastic scrapers, paper towels and old newspapers.
