I don't see a straight response to your question, though the E-glass vs S-glass is close.
To be truthful, I'm not going to answer your question directly either. :-)

"Fiberglass" encompasses a wide range of weights, materials, weaves, and finishes. To get true apples-to-apples comparisons, you need to compare all those details between two manufacturers to evaluate cost. But you need to learn a bit to pick the right fiberglass for your specific application.

Three possible approaches you could take:
1. Ask the forum members here what their FAVORITE 3.2 or 4-oz glass product is. Name the supplier, style number, and width.
2. Call a supplier or two, tell them what your planned use is (building a kayak) and ask what they recommend.
3. Research the heck out of fiberglass, catalog a bunch of options, and make a COMPLETELY educated decision.

If you do #3, please tell me which is the best 'glass to use! ;-)
