Canvas pliers

I found canvas stretching pliers extremely helpful if not necessary.

I did a one piece of poly. I used the pliers to stretch it tight by pulling it up to the gunnels and stapling into the gunnel with regular staples (that get removed later).
The canvas pliers have a lump that you rest against the wood and leverage back and you can get the skin very tight. The sides and bottom are tight then you pull the deck together and sew it and releasing staples as you sew along.

You may find the pliers at a local art or craft store.
