: I built the hatch rings per directions in Vaclav's manual with
: thickened epoxy ramps on each side of the foam strip. When this
: epoxy was no longer tacky. Approx. 4 hrs. later I laid up 6
: layers of 6oz. cloth. I did each layer individually and ended up
: using excess epoxy as it is an area that is hard to squeegie off
: the excess. I applied the epoxy with a brush and worked it in
: with a short bristle brush. I used the plastic on top of this
: sandwich with the wet sand for weight. This set for 3-4 days
: before I removed the rings from the bottom of the deck. I
: trimmed the outside of these rings without any problems. When I
: trimmed the inside of the rings to within 1/4" of the foam
: strip I discovered the glass layers had not adhered to the
: thickened epoxy very well. Both rings went into the trash. I am
: now ready to build them again. I apparently need to know more
: about this process than I do even though Vaclav's directions and
: drawings are very self explanatory it seems I am a little short
: on technique knowledge. Suggestions??
: Thank you very much.

Don't wait for the thickened epoxy to harden. Lay it out all at once, I have done this with and without the sand and you really don't need to use the sand. Just smooth out the wetted out glass with a gloved hand to work out the air bubbles and let it dry. In fact without the sand it is easier to see of you have any air in there. Joe
