My question is there
: any real reason NOT to go with shorter strips.

Draw a 48" line on your bench.

Mark 12" intervals.

Mark a point 6" perpendicular to the 12" and 36" marks.

Mark a point 8" perpendicular to the 24" mark.

Drive 3" sheetrock screws at the end points of the line and
at the 6" and 8" marks perpendicular to the line.

I've just defined points to shape a batten/strip into a hull curve.

Place a 50" + strip under the end screws and over the 6" and 8" screws to create
a perfect arc. Draw a line on the outside edge.

Now take a 26" strip and place one end under the first or last screw and over the 6"
screw and hold it to the outside of the 8" screw, to simulate what would happen
if you strip your hull with shorter than full length strips and butt join the strip ends
on a station.

You'll find the curves are not the same.

You might think,"Well the next strip will smooth the curve out."
It will to some extent, but it will not be the same shape a full length strip will make.

This will effect the fairness of the surface and add to work you will need to do to make it fair.

Perhaps this is okay for the level of finish you are satisfied with.

I would not use short strips or recommend any folks building my designs do so.
