Given:

1 the strength comes from the glass, not the wood core
2 the wood glue bonds between and alongside strips is stronger than the wood
3 nobody stacks joints up next to each other

It's not apparent to me why you'd expect a butt joint to be a problem unless you used it someplace dumb like the sheer. Has anybody tried this and had actual problems?
