I'm going to be a little sensational here but ... YOU SHOULD NEVER, I REPEAT NEVER, TRUST YOUR PUMPS FOR MEASURING OUT EPOXY!!

Don't believe me? Try pumping into a large syringe and you will be shocked at the variation in volume between pumps. I know lots of people say "I've been doing this for 20 years without problems" and yes they are right but I will guarantee you that their finished product is not as good as it could be. If you don't get the two mixtures exactly right there will be un cured epoxy in the laminate, even if it feels fully hardened and has stood up on your kayak for 20 years.

I buy a couple of large syringes from the farm supply store and pour the epoxy into the top of the syringe while I grip it in one hand, covering the small exit hole with my pinky. I can mix up any amount of epoxy I want in this way. I like to use empty ketchup bottles for dispensing epoxy as they are more inert than dish soap bottles as Jay suggests. I've had some fancy epoxies (non boating application) eat through the clear plastic bottles over time.

If you're putting in all the effort to make a hand crafted boat, why not make sure you've got the epoxy 100% right!?
