It's an interesting thought. But, part of the process of strip work is to sand, and round off all of the edges, as the strips form curves. This will leave areas where varying amounts of additional layers will show, as the top layer is sanded off. (Hmm, could be a weird, intriguing look; I'd like to see it.)

There may be other issues that I'm missing.
