Pity, that. Another thing to add to my "pry it from my cold dead hands' list.

You can probably get the knock-off to work properly with some 'tuning up'.
You definitely need to set up some proper hold-downs for the work, take light cuts, and make sure the cutters are sharp.

Also check out 'Gilbert sanding disc' which you can imitate with a home-built version.

The only problem with this kind of stuff is that you can get sidetracked building tools, and the project doesn't get done!
