: Just got a call to refurbish a mahogany sign I made for an office
: complex back in the '90s. It gets sun all day. I'll have to do
: it on site.I'll sand it to bare wood with a ros, but I'm not
: sure what to finish it with. I'm leaning towards using Flagship
: varnish, thin the first application, sand lightly and put on
: several more coats. What I need to know is if there are better
: choices for refinishing, as I'm not current with what's
: available. Thanks in advance.-Greg
There really is no simple solution to this, specially when it has to be done in place. If it were to be done in a shop, you could have it sprayed with automotive clear which would hold up a long time, but it's not really possible to do this outside, specially since the material is toxic and requires specialized equipment to safely use it.
Otherwise a marine varnish will work, but it requires seasonal maintenance if it's to be left in the sun year round, there are no easy to apply clear finishes that won't require seasonal upkeep that I know of.
