Yes, less expensive...but I rather like the end results that I get. Using a matrix which can include any number of different materials in many different patterns (uni-directional carbon, woven carbon, bi-axle carbon, Kevlar, S Glass) I am having a different fun and get a more durable paddle with a finer ...attainable edge....something that doesn't get splinters and gets those sanded out dips after a little bit of use. It's also repeatable, so if I find the perfect paddle design, I can make another, just like it.
It's also fun to play with the epoxy dyes:) and try different color combinations.

I started with the paddles I make in order to have a Greenland paddle that would be able to be put into a suitcase and go on an airplane anywhere in the world/protected by the suitcase. Part of the idea was that since I couldn't just fix or make another one if I was in some paddling venue that was far and away.....I needed something that would take a beatting and keep on ticking without repair. I know a lot of people talk about IF they break their paddle....then they just grab their spare and then latter ...just make another. No big deal. But I like mine to Never break:)

So it's an expensive hobble, but I have what I desire after all the expense
