: I was thinking that tinting the epoxy
: black would lessen the visibility of white scratches on a black
: hull.
: Suggestions? Comments? Pitfalls?
I put epoxy tinted with graphite on the bottom of my two S&G kayaks for a tough bottom. The epoxy/graphite mix was less than 10% (by volume) graphite (the instructions had 2 teaspoons of graphite with 3 pump strokes of resin and hardener using the West Systems pumps).
If I were to do this, I would suggest doing the initial epoxy wet-out with regular epoxy and then do the fill coats with the epoxy+graphite. It took 2 or 3 thin coats of this to get the deep black layer.
I like the look of the black kayak, but I'm not sure I would like how hot it would get in the sun.
