I think it's great that you are doing this with your daughter. I travel a lot as well and it sure hinders production. You may remember I posted a while back about a spruce mast I salvaged from a wrecked sailboat. Hopefully that will become this board. I have not cut into it yet excpet I sawed 1" off the end to get beyond the gray weathered part and the wood looks nice and has tight grain.

Your bass/walnut/bass accent sounds awesome. I wish I had access to basswood... or for that matter walnut. I had to ship the walnut down for my last build. I am probably going to use spruce, mahogany, and balsa that I already have, with a pinstripe down the waterline of walnut which I have a small amount of. The aft deck is probably going to be 2" mahogany, 1/4" balsa, repeated. Not sure about the foredeck yet, but it will have my siganture Cross of St. James in red Paua Shell on it. I'm really thinking racing stripe down the left side on this one instead of going symmetrical, although I like things to balance. Maybe dual racing stripes to satisfy my need for symmetry!

The Bullet is going to have a very tight transition around the edge. As you can see it's pretty much a vee hull with a hard chine. In fact, maybe I need to see about a stitch-n-glue version. Does the link to the video work? I wasn't sure if my settings would prevent the public from viewing it.
