Touchpad Blocker is the answer. As soon as you start typing, it disables your touchpad. When you stop typing it re-enables the touchpad. That way you don't have to worry about accidental bumps. This is a free download. I got this off of Kim Kommando's web site. Just type in touchpad in the search box.

ps: Thanks for the idea on the coaming strips. Went out today for a couple of hours and kept looking at the beautiful coaming ring.
