I think we all do that! I started using rubbing alcohol because it evaporates away quickly. Sometimes the water can leave a water mark but a little light sanding and it will go away. One thing to note, however, is that water will not show up the glue residue that might still be there. The glue wets out with water and looks clear, but when you epoxy over it the glue shows up as light spots. Look closely before you glass to see if there are any glue spots anywhere before you glass.
